Elections were held at the NSDHS May 5, 2010 seminar. Please consider joining the NSDHS board; we need your help!  It is so important that we have a complete board to keep our organization strong. Officers of NSDHS Position Descriptions:

The President sets the agenda and runs the Board and Seminar business meetings.  She/he writes the monthly President's letter for the website and oversees the Officers and Committee Chairs of NSDHS. The President serves a one year term and moves directly into the Past President position.

The Vice President communicates with the current year's speakers and sponsors for each NSDHS Seminar.  The VP helps to organize the business meeting at each Seminar, assists the speaker and sponsor during each NSDHS Seminar and makes all arrangements for the speakers and sponsors for the next fiscal year, with the help of the NSDHS Board. The Vice President serves a one year term and moves directly into the President position.

The Recording Secretary is responsible for taking and preparing the official minutes at all Component Seminars and NSDHS Board meetings. The minutes are then stored on disk and minutes from the Board meetings are emailed to all Board members within one week of the meeting. The Secretary also collects Annual Reports from Board members and stores them on disk. This is a two year position.
 
The Newsletter Corresponding Secretary is responsible for delivering NSDHS Board approved component communication to dental hygienists who have indicated a desire to receive communication from NSDHS.  This information is via email and communicates NSDHS Seminar information and other pertinent information deemed worthy by the NSDHS Board.  This is a two year position.

The Treasurer is responsible for all financial aspects of NSDHS. This includes paying all bills and depositing all funds from registration and sponsorships. All financial records must be prepared for a CPA compilation at the end of each fiscal year. A budget is also prepared each year. This is a two year position.

The Co-Component Trustees represent NSDHS at the IDHA Board of Trustee meetings three times per year.  All travel expenses are reimbursed by NSDHS, as some meetings may be in Springfield.  This year, the responsibilities of this position are divided among two people. This is a two year position, with the Co-Component Trustees alternating election years.

The Immediate Past President acts as an advisor to the Board, keeps the NSDHS President’s Scrapbook and accepts nominations and runs the elections for the next fiscal year. This is a one year position.

The Advertisement Chair solicits advertisements from area dentists, dental placement agencies or dental related employers, facilitates receipt of advertisements to NSDHS website for newsletter and collect payment from advertisers, and submitting to NSDHS Treasurer.

The By Laws and Procedure Chair is responsible for keeping our By Laws and Procedure Manual up to date, maintaining conformity with IDHA. She/he is also responsible for advising the Board, in order to ascertain that the By Laws and Procedure Manual are being followed.

The Community Service Committee Chair sets up at least one event to aid the local community.  Currently, the events have been a coat drive and food drive, involving the attendees at a NSDHS seminar.

The Dental Health Chair maintains presentation materials for the membership and assists in speaking at local schools, libraries, and clubs throughout our area.

The Legislative Chair composes and submits legislative articles for NSDHS newsletter/website. She/he attends at least one Board of Dentistry meeting and Lobby Day, in Springfield, Illinois, encourages NSDHS members to establish contact with legislators on pending IDHA or ISDS legislation and maintains contact with the IDHA Government Relations Chairperson.

The Membership Chair works with the Student Relations Chair, assisting in presentations to the students and helps them convert to full membership after they receive their dental hygiene license. She/he also maintains an open communication with all NSDHS members, supplying them with membership materials, encouraging all dental hygienists to join, answering questions, etc.

The Seminar Coordinator accepts reservations for the NSDHS Seminars, makes the registration sign in sheets and CE certificates and makes all arrangements with the banquet hall.

The Student Relations Chair is the liaison between Harper College dental hygiene students and NSDHS. She/he attends the ADHA-student chapter seminars at Harper College and submits a report to NSDHS.

The Ways and Means Chair runs the 50/50 raffle and any sponsor-related raffle of a product. This is done at each NSDHS Seminar.

The Website Liaison works closely with the Website Developer, proofreading all articles before they are place on the NSDHS website. All email reminders of Seminars are written by this person.

Delegates and Alternates are needed to represent NSDHS at IDHA Annual Session House of Delegates. The number of delegates we are allowed is based on our total membership. Delegates and Alternates must attend at least 3 NSDHS Seminars and a special delegate meeting prior to Annual Session. Expenses are paid by NSDHS. Delegates are elected to a two year term. Alternates are elected to a one year term.
